Engineering Technician


Essential Job Duties:

  • Work alongside engineers to design, build and test solutions to a variety of technical problems
  • Recommend design changes to products from manufacturing floor feedback
  • Acts as a technical resource for the manufacturing floor
  • Conduct assessments of existing or proposed manufacturing processes to provide focused improvement opportunities to increase production efficiencies, eliminate waste, reduce
  • inventory, reduce lead times and increase quality
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing techniques such as the DMAIC methodology to identify and
  • eliminate waste as well as evaluate potential changes in workflow to maximize production efficiencies
  • Design and implement efficient processes using lean manufacturing principles, to enable single piece flow in a pull system philosophy for existing products or new product launches as appropriate
  • Design tooling with the SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Die) principle
  • Maintain tooling and fixture drawings and monitor revisions/approvals from senior management
  • Justify and purchase equipment/tooling to improve or implement manufacturing processes
  • Generate written work instructions, process control procedures and operating procedures
  • Establish appropriate methods, tools, equipment, etc. required to produce products
  • Establish initial calibration schedules for implemented measuring and test equipment
  • Establish/maintains facility layout that is consistent with Kanban, efficient material flow and pull system techniques
  • Identify constraints in operational processes; suggests recommended countermeasures to trouble shoot problems

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma from a Technical Trade School
  • 5-8 years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in the Semiconductor Biotech
  • and Capital Equipment industry
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, 5’s Program, and Lean Manufacturing processes preferred
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical components as well as measuring/testing tools.

Essential Skills and Attitudes Required:

  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Hands-on preference to work in manufacturing floor area necessary to resolve issues with all levels of personnel
  • Excellent computer skills in a windows environment; SolidWorks, Inventor or other CAD software , MS Office
