We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Specialist in Shelton, CT. As a Health & Safety Specialist your day-to-day duties will consist of and may not be limited to: Health & Safety: Responsible for reinforcing and influencing an already strong safety culture by performing all Health & Safety regulatory compliance activities, including training and records management for employees (evaluate and/or design tests and courses; facilitate planning with training personnel including outside Subject Matter Experts, oversee employee compliance with assigned training, facilitate and deliver monthly safety training at offsite locations). Must be hands on. Willing to travel to company facilities New York State and Connecticut to build and maintain relationships with all staff- 40-50%.Inspect company projects and recommend corrections or additional precautions to ensure compliance with established regulations. Design and implement programs to improve company safety and reduce near misses and/or accidents.Maintain Health and Safety manual. Provide regular updates of safety statistics, status of safety programs and regulatory compliance activities. Review and approve Health and Safety work orders. Manage and inform internal safety committees. Conduct investigations for accidents and near misses, propose actions to avoid future issues, communicate and monitor those recommendations are implemented. Provide expertise to Human Resources on OSHA requirements where there is shared responsibility. Train and coach employees to identify hazards, perform tasks safely and to follow rules to reduce risk. Use influence style vs authoritative style. Provide budget, forecast information, and administer department spending. Knowledge:Prioritization skills and the ability to manage numerous and complex processes simultaneously and assess risks. Awareness and ability to apply decision making tools and techniques, purchasing practices and procedures, inventory management including spare parts and controls, pipeline safety Operator Qualification requirements. Knowledge of OSHA and related Health & Safety regulations, and Health and Safety program design and reinforce an already existing strong safety culture. Advanced computer skills including records management systems and web-based learning systems. Experience:Must have B.S. in Occupational Health and Safety.Detailed understanding of OSHA regulations and Operator Qualification rules preferred. Understanding of Performance Metrics and their application to safety and enhanced operational excellence.Experience managing Field Technician Team in DOT compliance is a plus. We invest in excellent working partnerships, powered by people.We are currently seeking a Field Technician in Hollis, NYPosition Summary and Special Duties:As a (an) Field Technician your day-to-day duties will consist of and may not be limited to: Performs all aspects of work on rail cars being processed through the New Haven Rail Yard and Commissioning Warranty Sites. This includes all electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, and any other duties requested by their supervisor.The position entails working on rail cars in the final assembly process at the New Haven facility or at a remote site. The technician will use standard hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, etc.) along with his or her ability to perform basic troubleshooting utilizing multi-meters and PC based test equipment. The technician will read piping diagrams, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and electrical schematics as required to accomplish the job assignment.The technician will perform test procedures on some the following systems: HVAC, Brakes, Propulsion, Communications systems, Toilet systems, Trainline systems, Sign systems, Automatic Train Control systems, general functional tests, Hipotential tests, Wining Continuity Tests, Pneumatic Leakage Tests, Dynamic Tests, Burn-in tests, etc.From time to time the Test technician will be required to assist and support the engineering group on various engineering tests.The test technician will interact directly with the customer on a regular basis and must have to ability to communicate clearly the intent and be confident in his or her assignment. The test technician will fill out all test documentation, reports and any other documentation required for the particular job assigned.The Field Technician will operate in many cases without direct supervision. He will be the lead in performing his tasks. The Field technician is not a novice position. He or She is required to take the lead in the assignment and guide the Function Test Technician or Rail Car Technician assigned with him. The Field Technician is to initiate the call for vendor, engineering, or manufacturing support first, then report to the supervisor the results or need for further assistance.The Field Technician will enter discrepancies into the database system.
