Sr. Design Engineer

We are currently seeking a Sr. Design Engineer in West Haven, CT. Your day-to-day duties will consist of and may not be limited to:         

The Sr Design Engineer is responsible for leading the mechanical design activities of multiple engineering projects, including new product development, cost reduction, and quality improvement projects.  Working in cross-functional and global teams, this person will develop design concepts, interact with customers, advance to detailed designs for manufacturing, and support scale up and launch of new products within the framework of a New Product Development Stage Gate Process.

Job Requirements

• Design new water filtration products and processes
• Design and develop new filtration platform concepts with advanced function, features, and value to customers
• Develop intellectual property related to new concepts and designs
• Design and develop enhancements to existing products
• Create models and drawings of products using CAD
• Analyze designs and interpret data
• Research new product ideas, technologies, and methods to produce innovative designs, performance improvements and cost savings
• Ensure compliance with design requirements and regulations
• Maintain technical documentation as required including CAD drawings, costing data, technical specifications, and test data
• Write detailed reports
• Find creative design solutions to problems
• Present prototypes and designs to customers and project managers
• Provide coaching, training, and subject matter expertise to junior team members

Technical Skill Requirements

• Expertise in use of Solidworks, Creo Parametric, and 3D CAD
• Expertise in plastic parts design and design for manufacturing
• Working knowledge of 3D printing and other fast prototyping
• Plastic assembly and joining experience required
• Dynamic and static structure analysis (including CAE tools)
• Understanding of Product Development Process
• Proficient with the use of quality, lean, and product development tools
• Concise communication; both verbal and written
• Organized and detail oriented
• Extensive knowledge of MS Office

Professional Experience

• 8 years applicable experience  
• BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• High volume production and manufacturing
• Materials – Plastics Part Design
• Pressure vessel, filtration, or fluid flow products
• Regulatory testing, preferably NSF
• Change management and document control
• Competitive benchmarking and specification development

Education Requirement

BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
