We are currently seeking a Senior Underwriter for a client in New Haven, CT. 100% Remote EST. **Experience with Life Insurance Underwriting is required for this role** OverviewUnderwrites individual life insurance contracts ranging in amounts through $1,000,000. May occasionally work on applications of higher amounts subject to review by a higher ranking Underwriter. Selects individual life insurance risks, binding the company on each contract.Core ResponsibilitiesAppraises, classifies, and takes action to approve or decline applications for new insurance, changes of plan, conversions, exchanges, reinstatements, and additions of benefits. Determines extra premiums for medical impairments and special hazards such as aviation, occupation, foreign residence and travel, and unusual avocations. Classifies each insurance applicant to eliminate adverse selection while maintaining equitable mortality. *Work on applications both in French and English if required.Provides a second review of special cases for accuracy and adherence to underwriting standards as needed.Communicates with field force and Home Office personnel regarding insurance applications and adjustments. Answers routine inquiries from other departments and field force concerning the Orders underwriting policies, practices, and procedures related to individual applications.Skills QualificationsRequired:Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy; ability to understand and apply medical knowledge to insurance applications.Knowledge of federal and state insurance regulations Preferred:Knowledge of company policies and insurance products/offeringsProblem-solving and analytical skillsGood business judgment/risk assessment skillsEffective oral and written communication skillsCapable of making informed, independent decisionsAttention to detailEducationRequiredBS or BA degree. Summary:Position is required to maintain office facilities and supplies, including regular inspection, and ensuring proper functioning of emergency communication systems. Process incoming/outgoing mail and packages, scan and enter invoices and other company records, and handle Business Travel Account reconciliation. Track, order, and stock office supplies, equipment, furniture, and refreshments. Provide document scanning, copying, binding, and lamination services to employees. Oversee facility equipment maintenance contracts, manage preventive maintenance for office furnishings and equipment. Administer fleet management program, including taking vehicles for service/oil changes, submitting reports, maintaining permits, processing vehicle reservations. Conduct new hire orientations. Prepare and respond to company emergencies, supporting the Manager, Government & Stakeholder Relations, acting as BIC Facilities Team Leader, and providing emergency preparedness. Performs visual inspection of parts and equipment to ensure conformance to quality standards and to identify non-conformance where it occurs. Performs all work according to engineering drawings, written work procedures, and verbal and written instructions.Uses scales, tape, calipers, micrometer, combination-square and other measuring equipment to inspect parts, equipment, and their proper installation to rail car body. Has the capability of using English and Metric systems of measurement.Records data and findings from inspections in inspection reports and related documentation with a high degree of accuracy, completeness, and attention to detail. Demonstrates an excellent mechanical aptitude.The QC Inspector must be able to read and interpret all engineering drawings and blueprints, and has a demonstrated proficiency in all inspection phases listed below.
